Indoor track is complete!! What a season. This season brought more growth and improvement than I expected. Through a lot of hard work both mentally and physically, I've was able to have the season of my dreams in many ways. I broke 18 minutes in the 5k (twice!) and secured two conference silver medals behind my BFF. I got to train really hard and do some workouts I didn't think possible.
Beyond the numerical stats, I had a ton of fun this season. We opened the season at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN where I raced a competitive 3k. The joy of that trip set the tone for a season in which I focused on celebration and team spirit. The rest of the season took place in Gainesville, FL, where I got to soak up the Florida sun and then run in a big stuffy room. I ran an okay mile race and two solid 3ks, beyond my 5k focus. Conference was so much fun, as our whole team rallied to have some incredible performances.
I'm also finishing the season ranked 21st in the 5k, which is so insanely cool, but also bittersweet because I was one spot and 0.3 of a second out of qualifying for nationals. I'm learning from these experience and taking the big wins. This is all part of the origin story! LOL.
Some stats:
New 1 mile PR: 5:23
New 3k PR: 10:25
New 5k PR (!!!): 17:49.5
Sun Conference 2nd place in both 3k and 5k
Final national ranking of 21st in the 5k
I'm feeling such overwhelming love for my team. It's bittersweet to know that each of these meets and races are the last for some of us, and the last for all of us together. I'm soaking up this time together, both racing and training. Emotionally, I'm learning to let go of the time on the clock and focus on the process and sharing experiences with my teammates. This sport is feeling so special.
I'm feeling so excited for outdoor track, which usually is not my favorite but I have a good feeling about this season! The momentum is rolling and I'm rolling right on with it. Onto outdoors!!
